Frédéric Dross received his PhD in semiconductor device physics from Telecom ParisTech, in Paris, France. Frédéric has been working in photovoltaics since 2004 when the cumulative installed PV capacity was more than 100 times smaller than today. Frédéric worked first in R&D and held the position of Principal Engineer for the PV group at the research institute imec, in Belgium. In 2012, Frédéric joined the Hanwha Solar America group in the Silicon Valley in California, first as part of the eBioAdvanced Research & Development Lab, and then as Director of Business Development. Frédéric was also in charge of the investment portfolio of the Hanwha Solar Group in the USA and was representing Hanwha at the Board of Directors of several venture companies. In 2015, Frédéric joined the independent engineering firm DNV GL where he was heading the module testing business and advising developers how to select good modules for their PV projects. In February 2018, Frédéric joined DSM as VP of technology for the Americas. In addition to his role in the USA, Frédéric is responsible for the global downstream business of DSM Advanced Solar. Frédéric has authored more than 80 scientific peer-reviewed international papers and holds 8 patents. He is a reviewer for the US Department of Energy, is member of the US Technical Advisory Group for the IEC, member of the Industrial Board for the DuraMAT consortium, and is regularly invited to peer-review papers and chair conference topics and sessions.
